The war for your mind
Have you ever stopped to think about all the violence and anger and rage in the world these days? I suppose we have become so desensitised to horrific news stories, because that’s all we hear. We’ve come to the point where we’re rooting for the bad guys and we’ve stopped asking questions as to what makes these people act in ways that contrasts what the bible says and that plays wonderfully into the hands of the enemy.
But Satan’s work isn’t limited to the minds of criminals and politicians, his work extends mightily to the minds of every-day-people like you and I, whether that is at work, at home, in a shopping mall or wherever. He finds a way to seep thoughts into our minds that makes us overthink things, overreact to situations, get angry or in fact, get violent.
I recently read about the school shootings in the UK, US, Sweden and that violent act in Munich over the Christmas holidays. These evil doers are ordinary people we’d never expect would act in such horror. But yet, there they are. And have we stopped to wonder where they get those thoughts from? They get it from the devil. And that’s exactly where you and I get our thoughts from, when we react poorly to situations that didn’t warrant it.
I think the trouble is that Satan somehow manages to get a loophole into our minds. Remember that reptile has game film on you and I. He knows which buttons to press and what floats our boats. And that is why we can’t afford, as Christians, to slumber – we have to be vigilant and alert and of a sober mind, that when a thought crosses our minds that is not of God, then we need to deal with it instantly.
But perhaps more importantly, we need to figure out what those open doors are, that lets the enemy in. It could be through music, film (particularly horrors), social media, or anything that our senses are exposed to. Satan is sleek. He’ll worm his way in to your life without you even realising it.
So my advice to you, is to submit to God, be obedient and read Jesus’s words everyday and pray that he gives you the strength to fight the war for your mind.
All we need is Jesus.
